1. You never know.

그건 모르는 거야. 모르는 일이야. 사람일은 모르는거야.

=You never know for sure.

=You can never know for sure.

You never know when you might need them again.

You never know what someone is really thinking.

You can never know for sure what someone is (really) thinking.

 

2. You know better (than to)

그러면 안되는거 너도 잘 알잖아 / 무엇을 하면 안된다는 것을 잘 알 나이가 됐거나, 충분한 경험이 있다는 의미

Come on, you know better than to believe everything (that) you see on the Internet.

에이 왜그래, 인터넷에 보이는 걸 보이는 걸 다 믿으면 안된다는 거 너도 잘 알 나이잖아 / 알때도 됐잖아.

 

I know better than to believe .....

I thought you knew better by now than to argue with Jacob. He's (like) the most stubborn person I know.

 

3. not know the first thing about (something)

= I didn't know anything about 비슷하지만 더 강조.

 

When I was just starting out as an English teacher, I didn't know the first thing about grammar.

ex) You walked home alone? Don't you know better (than that)?

ex) She'll know better than to trust them again.

ex) There's no excuse for his behavior. He's old enough to know better.

ex) Don't blame him. He's just a child and he doesn't know (any) better

 

Not know the first thing

ex) I'm afraid I don't know the first thing about car engines.

ex) I don't know the first thing about physics.

ex) I don't know the first thing about computers, so you'll have to explain this to me really slowly.
