1. bide (one's) time

: 침착하게 적절한 타이밍을 노리다.

ex) He played it really smart. He didn't rush into it.

ex) He bided his time and just when the timing was right, he made his move.

 

2. sleep on it

: 지금 당장 결정해야 하는 것은 아니야. 일단 오늘은 고민을 좀 해보고 내일 알려줘.

ex) You don't have to decide anything now.

ex) Why don't you just sleep on it tonight and tell me what you think in the morning.

 

3. strike while the iron is hot

: 지금 기회가 생겼을 때 ~하다.

ex) We can never anticipate opportunities like this.

ex) I say we strike while the iron is hot.

 

4. Keep (one's) head down

: 묵묵히 자기 할 일을 하다.

ex) No. I think I've already caused enough trouble.

ex) I think I'm just going to keep my head down for a while.

 

5. lie low

: 몸을 사리다. (실제 회화에서는 lay low 라고 하는 것을 많이 들을 수 있지만 lie low 가 맞음. 하지만 lay low 라고 해도 괜찮음)

ex) It may seem safe right now but it's very unpredictable and I think we should lie low for a while.

 

6. the dust settles

: 상황이 진정되다.

- after the dust settles : 먼지가 가라앉고 나면

- until the dust settles : 먼지가 가라앉을 때까지

ex) There's just too much happening right now. After the dust settles, I'm sure things will be much clearer.

Bide one's time

ex) He's just biding his time until a permanent job opens up.

ex) The big tiger bides time until the zebra had to make its way to the water fountain and then struck.

ex) He is just biding time until the death sentence is executed.

ex) I like to bide my tie and get the cake out at the stroke of midnight, every year on my wife's birthday.

ex) He is biding time until he has to start college, then he will be very active in the social circle.

ex) She has been biding her time for several months now for an opportunity as great as this one.

ex) He does not like to bide his time and wait for the action, he is a go getter.

ex) The will cat sat quietly in front of the rabbit's hiding place, biding his time.

 

Sleep on it

ex) Don't give me an answer now - sleep on it and tell me whenever you're ready.

ex) Sleep on it and talk about it later.

ex) I will have to sleep on it and see wherer we are.

 

Strike while the iron is hot

ex) He doesn't often make such offers - I'd strike while the iron is hot if I were you.

ex) The study plans werer such that it required you to read when your mind was fresh, strike while the iron is hot.

ex) I used to try to strike while the iron was hot but barely ever succeeded.

ex) My uncle strikes only while the iron is hot and usually gets the best deals.

ex) You need to strike while the iron is hot otherwise you will never get the better of these deals.

ex) I spoke to him at just the right time before he made his decision. Strike while the iron is hot, right?

 

Keep one's head down

ex) My advice to you is to keep your head down for the moment. 

ex) I'm keeping my head down at work these days because I don't want to be among the layoffs that are sure to accompany our recent change in leadership.

ex) I had to keep my head down so my ex wouldn't recognize me as I walked by.

ex) He's keeping his head down after being blasted for his offensive tweets.

 

Lie low

ex) I'd lie low if I were you till the trouble passes.

ex) But he knew something about lying low.

ex) Find a place to lie low.

ex) Then we lay low for a while.

ex) If you don't want to go back to jail, you'd better lie low for a while.

ex) He seems to be lying low until the controversy passes.

 

The dust settles

ex) We thought we'd let the dust settle before discussing the other matter.

ex) I'll call you as soon as the dust settles from the move.

ex) When the dust settled and the votes were recounted, she had won the election.

ex) You should let the dust settle before you make any big decisions.

ex) I think we need to let the dust settle and see what's going to happen after that.
